The short version

If you join the mailing list, your email address and whatever name you give are stored so that the newsletter can be sent to you. Nothing is sold, rented, traded or handed to advertisers. Every email has a working unsubscribe link, and using it removes you immediately.

---

The mailing list

The list is run on EmailOctopus, which stores the data and sends the mail. What is held is your email address, any first or last name you enter, the date you subscribed, and tags plus a source field recording roughly where you signed up and which books you have been told about. Open and click statistics are recorded in aggregate.

After you confirm, three emails arrive over the following ten days: the novella, a note about the first full-length book, and one request for a review. After that the mail is occasional, and only when there is something to say.

Double opt-in is on. After you sign up you get one email asking you to confirm. Until you click it, nothing else is sent, and an unconfirmed address is discarded rather than kept.

The legal basis is your consent, given by signing up and confirming. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link on any email, or by writing to hello@novabianchi.com. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything sent before you withdrew it.

The free novella

Copies of Truce Line are delivered by BookFunnel, which handles the file and the device help. To do that it receives your email address and records that a download was requested, so it can re-send the book and answer support questions about it.

This website

The site runs on WordPress and is hosted by Hostinger. Like almost every web server, it keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses, for security and diagnostics. A caching plugin may set a technical cookie so pages load faster. No advertising trackers, no analytics profiling, and no cross-site tracking pixels are used.

Links to Amazon are ordinary links to book listings.

The sign-up form is protected against automated abuse by Google reCAPTCHA, which runs invisibly in the background when the form is on screen. Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to that check. It is used only to tell a person from a bot, and for nothing else.

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests those font files from Google’s servers when you open a page here.

A consent banner appears on your first visit so you can accept or refuse these. The full, itemised list of what is set and how long it lasts is in the cookie policy, and you can reopen the banner and change your mind at any time from the link at the bottom of that page.

Where your data is handled

Nova Bianchi and Hollow Tide Press operate from Quebec, Canada. The services that hold your information are based outside Quebec, and outside Canada:

• EmailOctopus, the mailing list, is a United Kingdom company.
• BookFunnel, which delivers the books, is a United States company.
• Hostinger, which hosts this site, is a European Union company.
• Google supplies the reCAPTCHA check and the fonts, from the United States.

So your email address is stored and processed outside Quebec. Each of these services is used only for the single job named above, and none of them is permitted to use your information for its own marketing. If you would rather not have your address held outside Quebec, do not subscribe, and write to the address below if you have already done so and want it removed.

How long anything is kept

Subscriber records are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion. Unconfirmed sign-ups are discarded. Server logs are kept only as long as the host retains them for security purposes.

---

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of the data held about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or object to its use. Ask at hello@novabianchi.com and it will be done. There is no charge and no need to give a reason.

Children
